by Design Challenges
The University Hall of Innovation welcomes university and college design programs that have a design/build component to their curriculum, or have building as a component to their studios can contact University Hall of Innovation for more information or with questions on how to take part in a 'by Design Challenge'. The current design prompt for the 6 week 'by Design Challenge' is to develop home furnishings using at least 80% of a single 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" plywood. The Challenge consists of two parts, each culminating with an exhibition of prototypes at High Point Market, the worlds largest Home Furnishings trade show. The selected schools are partnered with industry professionals from manufacturers and designers, to style influencers and design celebrities. The students upload their designs to a private Facebook group where they will get invaluable industry insight each step of the way, from the first array of sketches through the final model and competition board. The exhibition of scale models at Fall High Point Market culminates in the 'popular vote' with winners from each school being invited to exhibit their full-scale prototypes during Spring High Point Market at the Suites at Market Square.
